Practice plan & control schemes

SubeR practice idea: try ten offline draws with the same setup. Note early/late reactions, then change one thing. This is a learning exercise, not a guaranteed win method.

  • Total Control: right-stick actions plus face-button skill moves.
  • Skill Stick: focuses on right-stick skills and shots.
  • Hybrid: simplified controls with basic actions only.

These are preset descriptions, not faceoff bindings. Your console’s remapping may also change the physical input.

EA control-scheme descriptions ↗

Play better: skating, passing, shooting & defending
  • Use short speed bursts to conserve stamina.
  • Pass toward open teammates instead of traffic.
  • Practise accurate wrist shots, powerful slap shots and well-set-up one-timers.
  • Stay between the attacker and your net; avoid repeatedly spamming checks.
  • Start in Free Skate or offline Play Now. Use the in-game Controls for goalie inputs.

These are general learning tips. Goalie button mappings and a complete NHL 27 move list are not verified here.

Quick tips, before you play

SubeR’s short practice suggestions, not guaranteed tactics or competitive presets.

Beginner

  • Start offline with one skill instead of changing every setting.
  • Practise a few shots from the same spot before changing the angle.
  • On faceoffs, watch the puck drop and review whether your action was early or late.

Controls

  • Match Total Control, Skill Stick or Hybrid before copying a card.
  • L3 and R3 mean pressing the sticks, not moving them.
  • Use your in-game Controls screen for detailed stick motions not shown here.

Teamwork

  • Look for an open teammate before releasing a pass.
  • Stay available away from the puck instead of crowding its carrier.
  • In CHEL, agree on a support role and leave a passing option behind the play.

Common mistakes

  • If a passing lane is covered, wait for another option instead of forcing the pass.
  • After a blocked shot, try a different angle instead of repeating the same attempt.
  • Recover toward the middle after a missed check instead of chasing from behind.
